Playback
Q: Why my movie can't be played?
A: Movie Time will play all movies supported by QuickTime. If Movie Time can't open your movie, please, try to open it with QuickTime Player first. If QuickTime Player can play it, please, send a bug report to movietime@macmail.com with as much info about your movie as possible. You can get a movie info in QuickTime Player by pressing Command+I or choosing Window->Show Movie Info from the menu.
If QuickTime Player can't play your movie you might need to install additional QuickTime compoments (codecs). See our Links page for the most popular components. If you think we should add some other links there, let us know.
Q: When I switch to Finder pressing Command+Tab instead of desktop I see my movie, how can I see my desktop?
A: In Movie Time Preferences you can turn on Hide on Deactivate option. When it turned on, Movie Time will hide it's window when you switch to an other application.
Q: When I view my subtitles it does not appear to be displayed correctly. Any way to fix this?
A: If you have subtitles in languages other than english, encoding might need to be changed in preferences to display text correctly. Go to menu Preferences -> Subtitles and select correct encoding. Current subtitles file will be reinterpret with new encoding. Now text should appear correctly.
Q: Any chance of adding VCD and DVD playback?
A: Movie Time is using Quick Time engine to play movies an as for now can not play anything Quick Time can't. I would like Movie Time to play VCD and DVDs but implementation will require huge effort, not feasible for free program.
Q: Videos that play fine with QuickTime Player have "jumping" picture with Movie Time.
A: I have seeing this behavior with some movies. I believe this started with QT 7.X and I did not figured out yet why this is happening and how to fix it. I noticed one workaround though, movie starts playing smooth again, once you turn on controller (press 'C').
Q: Apple Remote does not work in Movie Time. What can be the problem?
A: Some apps that provide extended control over Apple Remote, like Mira, use exclusive control over remote, and prevent other apps from gaining access to the remote. As a workaround you can enable support for Movie time in offending app, or uninstall offending app completely ;). Profiles for Mira available here.
Bug reporting
Q: How do I get crash log?
A: If you are running Panther (10.3.X) you do not need to do anything to activate the crash log generation. Every time applications crashed you will see a message pops up informing you that an application 'unexpectedly quit'. Click Submit Report... button on this dialog. A new window will appear with two views. The top view would be "Problem Description", the bottom view - "Crash Report" will contain an actual crash log. Switch to the bottom view (by clicking it), select all there and copy/paste it into the e-mail body and send to us along with the description of how this happened. After that, just close the crash report window. No need to send report to Apple, unless it concerns some application shipped with the system ;).
If you are running Jaguar, or earlier system, first, you might need to enable the crash log generation. Launch the Console application (/Applications/Utilities/Console), open the Preferences dialog (Console->Preferences...), switch to the tab Crashes and make sure both checkboxes are checked there. Now you can quit the Console. Next time some application crashes, the Console will start automatically and display the crash log. Copy most recent crash log and paste it into e-mail with the bug description.
Preferences
Q: What's Generate extended log to console option means?
A: By default, Movie Time will log to console only the errors. Sometimes, to understand a problem, it is not enough to see only the error message. With Generate extended log to console option turned on, Movie Time logs to the console all important events happening. This log may help us to see better what caused the problem on your machine. So you may need this if you experiencing problems. But, if all OK with playback on your machine, you don't need to bother with this.
